The story behind AEF

Why Anurag en français (AEF)?

I’m Anurag, a French learner, enthusiast and someone who has been on this journey for quite a while.

Anurag en Français grew out of my own curiosity and love for the French language – and from wanting to share the things I’ve discovered along the way. Because learning a language is about much more than vocabulary and grammar. It’s about how we think, communicate, connect, and gradually find our own way in the language.

That’s what I explore here.

French came into my life when I moved to France. At first, learning it was partly an obligation and partly curiosity. But somewhere along the way, that curiosity turned into a genuine passion for the language.

The story behind it

Even after returning from France, I continued learning French, eventually taking and passing exams and, more importantly, continuing simply because I wanted to. Over the years, French became much more than another language I was learning. It gave me another way of expressing myself, communicating and looking at things – and helped me discover aspects of myself along the way.

But continuing to learn French while living in a non-French-speaking country is not always easy.

When French kept me going

Around 2020-21, French became one of the things that kept me going during a difficult period in my life, along with yoga. That period also gave me the time to invest deeply in learning and build a foundation that I still rely on today.

For the first few years, I found different ways to keep the journey interesting and stay motivated. But after several years, it started becoming harder. At some point, I realised that French was beginning to feel more like a burden than something I was enjoying.

So I had a choice: let it go, or find a new way to make something out of it.

Early 2026 — A new chapter

I had experimented with sharing French before, but only on a small scale. This time, I wanted to do something more substantial. I had already been thinking about creating content in French, so one day I simply decided to make an Instagram video. To my surprise, the first one took off.

That gave me the motivation I needed. From there, the challenge was much simpler: stay consistent. And that’s what I did.

Anurag en Français grew out of that decision: to take something I had been carrying for years and give it a new form.

French is more than a language.

Learning French isn’t only about vocabulary, grammar or reaching the next level. It is also about learning how to communicate, developing an ear for nuances, understanding culture, finding your own way of expressing yourself, and gradually becoming more comfortable in the language.

That is what I want to explore here – communication, mindset, methods, culture, nuances, habits and the psychology of learning.

Not just what to learn, but also how to approach the language and make it part of your life.

And it’s just the beginning…

This project is still taking shape. There are a few directions I’d like to explore over time – workshops, e-books, more writing, continuing the podcast series, and eventually a book.

I don’t have everything figured out yet, and that’s okay. I want the project to grow organically, shaped by what I learn, discover and experience along the way.
